Savannah Trip

Savannah family
Our family celebrating my 15th marathon!
Last weekend, we drove down to Savannah so I could run in the Rock n Roll Savannah Marathon.  My parents were kind enough to join us (and help Steve watch the kids while I was running)!  We left Friday morning and got there in plenty of time to pick up my race packet at the Expo – I think the kids enjoyed checking out all of the latest and greatest in running gear (insert sarcasm here).  Afterwards, we checked into the hotel, picked up my parents, and went back downtown.  We met up with Lindsey, my dear friend from college, who was down there with her family (she was running the half marathon and her husband was running the full).  The kids had fun playing together in the park…this was followed by a very nutritious pre-race meal at Mellow Mushroom.

Saturday morning, Steve dropped me off and I rode with Lindsey and Joe to the starting line.  I have run a few marathons within 3-4 weeks off each other, but I have never run two this close together (Chattanooga was only 13 days prior)…I have to be honest, I was a little worried about how my legs would hold up.  It was really a great race- the majority of it was very pretty and the course was nice and flat.  Here are a few pics:

Thankfully, my legs held up surprisingly well and I was happy to finish in a pretty decent time.  Marathon #15 is officially in the books!

Thanks for your support, mom and dad!

After the race, we went back to the hotel so I could clean up and get ready to go out for a late lunch/early dinner to celebrate MJ’s FOURTH birthday!   (His birthday was actually Monday – stay tuned for the bday post).  We went to a fun place called the Crab Shack on Tybee Island where they have tons of alligators – we were supposed to be able to feed them, but unfortunately it wasn’t feeding time… The kids still had a ball.

And Steve enjoyed teasing the boys with his seafood platter:

After dinner, we went to Gigi’s cupcakes – they even put a candle on MJ’s cupcake so we could sing happy birthday to him!

We went back to the hotel, watched some football, and passed out.  Steve had to fly out of Savannah early Sunday morning for a meeting in Chicago, so after breakfast the rest of us got in the car and headed back home.  It was a great trip!

  2. I am so impressed that you just ran your 15th marathon! Go Jules! I'm also impressed that you can run with your hair down. I know yours is shorter than mine, but still... no way I could even attempt that. :)
