Two Little Fishies

ISR graduation

MJ with our instructor, Mike

The boys graduated from their swim class this week! For the past 4 weeks, I have been driving from Piedmont to Dunwoody after work– the class is 10 minutes a day, Monday through Friday. While it was definitely a time commitment, it was well worth it. I can’t believe how much they have accomplished in such a short period of time! I have to admit, after the first couple of days I wasn’t sure what I had gotten myself (and the boys) into … this is not a swim class for the faint of heart; it is a survival swim class. They go under the water the first day- not once, but over and over again. After having to rip MJ off of my leg and hand a hysterical Ty over to Mike the first few days, I thought for sure I was going to lose it. Thankfully, this was short-lived and now the boys absolutely love to swim!

See videos of them swimming in the posts below!

Ty swimming

In order to graduate, Ty had to be able to hold his breath under water and come up to float in his winter clothes. In the video above, he has on a long sleeved shirt, pants, shoes, a regular diaper, and a heavy jacket.

MJ swimming

For MJ to graduate, he had to do the swim-float-swim sequence with his winter clothes on as well. Unfortunately, I forgot my Flip camera that day, but he swam across the entire pool by himself with a long sleeved shirt, pants, tennis shoes, and a heavy jacket. The video above is of him swimming over a week ago- he is even better now and can do it all by himself!

Summer Fun

Dr. MJ

About once a week, the boys come to the hospital to have lunch with me. MJ is fascinated by all of my "doctor gear." As soon as he walks in, he immediately goes for my stethescope; he is actually pretty good at using it!

Last week, we went to the aquarium with my family while Steve was out of town. Here are a few pictures:

Let the fun begin!

That shark is awesome

Ty loved the fish, too
(thanks Eddie for carrying him in the Bjorn!)

As many of you know, Kim and I have been best friends since middle school. Her little sister, Pamela, got married this weekend, and we were thrilled to attend the ceremony. She was an absolutely stunning bride and the wedding and reception were beautiful.

Pamela also sang at my wedding seven years ago. :)

After the wedding, we headed up to Lake Lanier for John's 60th birthday party.

Ty at 9 Months

9 months old!

It has been a big month for Ty. After weeks of "almost" crawling, he finally got it. Now, he is everywhere! He crawls with a purpose- to get a toy or pull up on something. While he is not an expert at it, he can pull up to stand. I can't believe how fast my baby is growing!

Crawling over to the toy box

Speaking of growing, he is a BIG boy!
Height: 30.25" (95%), Weight: 21 lbs, 12 oz (70%).

Ty loves to play games...he will crawl behind the sofa or doorway and stick his head out to play peek-a-boo. He claps and "arm dances" to songs. He likes to steal toys from his big brother (who is not always so accomodating). haha :)

Peek-a-boo!

He continues to sleep 11-12 hours at night and take two 1-2 hour naps per day. Over the course of this month, FOUR more teeth broke through (for a total of 8). He handled it like a champ!

Sweetie pie

As far as eating habits, Ty consumes 5-6 jars of baby food and drinks ~24-30 ounces of formula daily. We added a few finger foods this month- baby puffs, lil' crunchies, goldfish, cheerios, etc. We introduced his sippy cup a couple of months ago, but he is starting to drink out of it more regularly now.

Ty is doing great in his swim class. He can hold his breath under water, flip himself over, and come up to float. It is amazing!

Fourth of July at the lake

Happy 4th of July!

We spent the long weekend at my in-law's lakehouse on Lake Lanier. We had a great time with family and friends. Ty had fun floating in the water and riding on the boat. MJ is fearless (thanks to his new swim class) and jumped off the dock over and over again. He is not afraid to dunk his head under the water, that's for sure!

Daddy, throw me one more time!

When we got back to our house on Monday, we did our own little fireworks show in the driveway...

This is awesome!
